Learn 6 Easy Steps to Speed Up Your Computer

Nobody likes waiting for their computer, when trying to be productive. Unfortunately, over time, they can begin to run more slowly. The good news is, there are things you can do to speed up your computer.

Use the Troubleshooter

Most computers have a built in troubleshooter that can help speed operations up. On Windows, the troubleshooter can be found by clicking Start>Control Panel>typing Troubleshooter in the search box. Once in the troubleshooter, look under system and security>and check for performance issues.

Limit Programs that Launch at Startup

See what programs you have that start up every time your computer does. While some programs are required, others are slowing you down. An example of this is Skype. Switch off those that you don’t need to automatically launch by following this chain of commands: Start>Run>type “msconfig”>click “startup” in the box that appears> uncheck the programs you don’t need.

Limit Programs Running at the Same Time

This tip involves just changing your behavior when on your computer, and can have a large impact on how fast your computer runs. Limit the amount of browser tabs you have open, limit the amount of emails open at one time and only run one antivirus program. It helps to work in 1-2 programs at a time and to close them when you finish.

Restart Regularly

Every time you open a program on your computer, your memory is storing it. When you restart your computer, this memory gets cleared up making the computer run faster. It is a good idea to restart your computer one time each day.

Clean Up Your Disc

Regularly run your disk cleanup program. This will remove temporary files and empty the recycle bin. As a result, your system will be less bogged down. You can also manually delete temporary files by following this chain on commands: open My Computer> click on your main drive> click Windows folder> right click the Temp folder>select View>select Details> select all old files>press delete. Be sure to also empty your recycle bin.

Delete Programs You Don’t Use

If there are programs you’re not using, and don’t plan to use, these programs are wasting precious resources. You will want to go in and uninstall them and observe if your system speeds up. Here is how you can find them: Start> Control Panel> Programs and Features> Uninstall programs you don’t use.

Essentially, when you want to speed up your computer, you just need to perform a little clean up. These 6 easy steps will help you clear out some room to work faster.
