High Level Comparison

Both Sage Intacct and Abila MIP are accounting software packages that offer strong reporting capabilities and extended accounting features like payroll. MIP specializes in nonprofits while Sage Intacct offers support for nonprofits as well as other businesses and industries. In addition, Sage Intacct also includes integrated ERP functionality beyond financials.

Abila MIP began as an on-premises system with a cloud version released in 2015. It is an established product that offers flexible reporting, budgeting, and built-in alerts for fraud detection. Based in Austin Texas, Abila has about 117 employees and 4,000 customer installations.

While MIP has been a great fund accounting solution for nonprofits since 1982, it does have a few limitations including:  limited integrations that results in a lot of manual data import/exporting between systems, difficulties in financial reporting because of manual data import/export between MIP and Excel, it also lacks real-time visibility into organizational finances due to the manual processes.

Sage Intacct is a true cloud solution and is a leader on the G2 NFP Accounting Software grid as well as the only preferred provider of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). The organization has nearly 1,000 employees and over 12,000 customers worldwide. The solution offers more robust dashboards, multi-entity functionality, and drilldown capabilities and is easy to scale for new locations, programs, and funds.
